Welcome to the 22nd advisory note from the Energy Efficient Homes Package team with guidance on key issues relevant to the Home Insulation Program. These notes are also available at:
How much does it cost to leave your TV on all day? What about turning your air conditioning 1 degree cooler? Which uses more power every month - your dishwasher or your washing machine? Is your household more or less energy efficient than similar homes in your neighborhood?
As the state with the lowest level of insulation and the most energy inefficient housing in the country, Queensland stands to reap substantial gains from the Federal Government's Energy Efficient Homes program, according to the Insulation Council of Australia and New Zealand (ICANZ).
Mr D'Arcy, ICANZ CEO, said, "At only 42 per cent, Queensland has the lowest level of insulation in Australia (ABS 2005).
The Federal Government's new $1.5 billion investment in renewable energy demonstrates their commitment to clean energy as a frontline solution to mitigating dangerous climate change.
The clean energy headline in last night's federal budget was a new $1.35 billion Solar Flagships program that will drive up to four large scale solar power stations.
"Australia is blessed with world class roaring 40s wind and is the sunniest continent on earth - we should be making the most of these clean energy assets," Clean Energy Council (CEC) chief executive Matthew Warren said.
It sounds strange, but it’s the greenest thing you can install in any house or apartment to immediately improve its environmental performance - insulation.
THE Rudd government has accused the opposition of deliberately undermining its roof insulation program by falsely claiming installers are rorting the scheme.
The Australian Government $3.9 billion Energy Efficient Homes Package will install roof insulation in up to 2.9 million Australian homes, 500,000 of these in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich and Tweed Heads.
This practical step will help millions of households reduce their energy use, cut their power bills by around $200 a year, and increase the comfort and value of their homes.
